August 20th, 2008
by Thulas Sukati

Over recent years many ways to enhance your cell phone have been introduced with one of the most recent being the cellular phone ring tone. Don’t dismiss this as just another gimmick because adding a cellular phone ring tone or wallpaper is big business nowadays as the number of suppliers will confirm. The devices and software becoming available to ensure that you are able to install these ring tones is becoming more numerous and easier to use.

Owing to this surge in popularity devices like the ring tone converter were born to assist with the installation. Many internet sites rely on the technology behind ring tone converters to enable them to be downloaded onto cell phones. It is now also possible to send ring tones using the well known SMS system we all use for text messages. Fortunately, cell phone ring tone converters can be used between models from different manufacturers. Although there are cellular phone models that do not support ring tone converters, it is possible that the cellular phone has a built in cellular phone ring tone which will help create an individual sound for your cellular phone.

The availability of ring tone converters which do not require cables and infrared connections, prove to be easy to use if you need to download cellular phone ring tones. Of course, serious ring tone addicts like to create their own using built in composers. Of course once you have your own ring tone, it is a simple matter to edit and change it at any time. For those of you that now want their ring tone composer, do not panic because many of the converters have this function built in

The number of web sites that have grown up is in direct proportion to how popular the whole concept of different ring tones has become. Most of these web sites can send the ring tone via SMS and do not need to use your computer at all.

As usual with all things that involve software and programs, you will have to ensure the appropriate software is used for your converter to work properly. This is only a minor point and once it has been sorted out, the creation of your own personalized ring tones is only a short distance away.

Whatever you want to do, there is a great deal of choice now with internet sites, friends or you can do it yourself. Just remember before you rush off, make sure that your phone supports the software it needs to do this and use the correct programs if you want ensure there are no problems. Almost all cell phones are loaded with a large number of ring tones so even if aren’t able to add new ones there may be one already programmed in that sounds different enough to make your phone sound individual.

Your Computer’s CD Burner

August 20th, 2008
by Computer Geek

Some time ago if you wanted to have your favorite band’s new CD, you had to buy it at a record store or buy it online. With the cost averaging around $10 it could end up costing you if you wanted more than just a few CD’s. If you couldn’t afford to buy all those CD’s you just waited for the radio to play it.

Then came those music shareware sites like Napster that made it really easy and cheap to download your favorite songs. You just store the songs on the computer’s hard drive and add it to your MP3 player if you wanted.

If you wanted to transfer your downloaded files to a CD, all you needed was a CD burner which now comes will all new computers.

A CD burner comes in two formats, an external drive and an internal drive. Most people are probably familiar with the internal drives that connect to you CPU and is housed in your computer tower. The external drive on the other hand is not connected to the CPU and plugs in to your computer via a USB port.

A nice thing about a CD burner is you can burn songs from one CD to another or burn songs off of your hard drive.

Now you’ll need software to run your CD burner which in most cases comes with your computer in the form of Windows Media Player. If you want something that works better and offers you more options, your best bet is to purchase Nero or Roxio.

If you just can’t afford to spend money on software for your burner, you still have a few good options when it comes to the free software. Two better free options to look for are Deep Burner or ISO Recorder.

Some might think a CD burner can only copy songs or audio recordings but this isn’t the case. You can also copy different files, programs, pictures, games, etc. You can burn all kinds of files. How did we ever live without a CD burner?

Computer Internet Security for Free

August 19th, 2008
by Computer Geek

Surfing the web is getting more unsafe than ever before. With all the viruses, spyware, adware, and thieves who want your identity, doing anything on the Internet can be frightening.

Computer Internet security is important to have if you want to prevent these unfun things from infecting your computer. No one wants to be invaded by hackers, infected with viruses, or be spied on by who knows who.

If you leave your computer unprotected, it’s like leaving your front door open for someone to install cameras and watch your every move and you not even knowing about it. This also applies to your computer. You may have files on your computer you don’t want strangers to be looking at.

The Internet does provide a lot of everything but unfortunately there are people out there who abuse it by hacking your computer, infecting it with a virus, etc. This is why it’s so important to install computer Internet security software to prevent these malicious things from happening to you.

Internet security software is abundant but many of them will cost you money. There are free versions also but a lot of these only have a demo version of the full software or a limited trial period that will then require you to download the full version.

Free computer Internet security software does exist without a demo and trial period but there’s always a catch. You’ll find these software packages are limited on the security they offer and they may not protect your computer from new viruses that pop up every day.

Free software is great as a temporary protection while you’re surfing the Internet for a full version. Even though the free version doesn’t provide all the security you need, it is a better choice than not protecting your computer at all.

The free security software should only be temporary while you find the right program for your computer. After you find the software you want, uninstall the free version and add the new one. You can then be confident that you’ll be secure from any spyware, adware, and viruses.

Downloading the free version of Internet security software is still a great option when you surf the Internet. Don’t forget to get the full version to protect you from all the latest viruses, spyware, etc. You’ll be glad you did.

General Information About Air Horns and Air Horn Kits

August 19th, 2008
by Chris Channing

In the past century train horns have evolved from being a simple horn, to elaborate horns with many nozzles. They serve as extremely loud devices to warn oncoming traffic and animals of the trains presence. Train horns can also serve as a signal transmitter, when conductors and employees need to pass signals between each other. A train horn consists of several pieces, but the main components are the nozzle and the diaphragm.

Train horns function by using compressed air, on a scale from 125-140 pounds per square inch. Oscillation is the flow of air throughout the horn, and helps to produce the sound that we hear. Air application to the horn results in a vibration and waves of air flow outwards creating a loud whistling noise. The shape, and size determine the frequency and pitch of the horns noise. When train horns were first invented they were operated by using a pull cord or lever. Currently train horns are used by simple pressing a button. Train horns are not used solely for trains, in recent times they have become popular for use on trucks, SUVs, and other large vehicles. Many people use them on water craft for warning signals as well. Some people even collect them for their sentimental value, and their beauty. Suburban areas have banned uses of train horns in certain areas. They tend to disrupt quiet areas and anger the local citizens.

Train Horn kits are popular amongst train horn enthusiasts, and can be purchased on the internet, or in specialty shops. While they look like a kids toy, these “big kid” toys do not come cheap. Many are priced in the $300 range, while a great portion of them exceed $400, and even $500.

Setting up a train horn is a complicated process, and also requires a bit of precision. Importance is placed upon choosing the correct air compressor to generate the sound, and the right placement. A mistake in any of these categories can be lethal, and is highly dangerous. It is advisable to have an air compressor of 20 gallons or higher. This allows for a surplus, and keeps you from running back and forth to a gas station to fill it up.

Personal train horns, and horns used on trains are bound to have functionality conflicts. Since the two main pieces are hollow, they make great homes for small creatures and insects. This interference will greatly impact the sound that is produced from your horn. While regular maintenance is necessary, it is also advisable to get your train horn repaired at a professional place if necessary. Collectible horns and everyday use horns have different repair and maintenance requirements, so make sure you know what you are doing before attempting anything on your own. For a fee you can see an antique dealer, or a professional train horn tuner to get your horn in perfect shape again.

Closing Comments

All in all, train horns are a unique collectible item, and a quite functional one at that. In over 50 years they still have not gone out of style, and train conductors will probably continue to use them for some time.

Earth 4 Energy - Cheap DIY Solar and Windmill Power

August 19th, 2008
by Matthew Loop

In today’s society, saving money anywhere you can is important to middle-class America. Many are sick and tired of forking out high costs for their electricity, power, and gas each month. Herds of people are now turning to the Earth 4 Energy system and it has struck a curious nerve with others.

For many, the process of generating power through windmills and solar panels sounded very interesting. Even for me the process was quiet interesting and cool. I even bought a conversion kit to implement the same in my own residence. The result was that I created my own windmill and then produced electricity out of it.

For a very nonprofessional, the most evident question would be what is the benefit of using solar panels and windmill power? The best answer to this question is that your cost of utilities would decrease to a huge amount. The Earth 4 Energy kit is of great help and saves thousands of dollars per month.

The best part of these generators is that they are environment friendly and pollution free. They do not emit harmful pollutants in the air. In the near future almost all the people will use this concept in order to save money and generate power in an effective way.

An added benefit that a bunch of users like myself experience is that the in-town utility company purchases the excess electricity generated from our homes. This applies if we use less electricity that what has been created. This situation is not a rarity. Believe it or not, it can occur frequently if you live in an area where the windmill or solar panel can generate massive amounts of electricity in excess.

Now that you have understood the benefits of the Earth 4 Energy protocol, you know that wind / solar energy is one of the cheapest resources of energy available in the electricity front.

You know something else, it has also helped other people who live in rural areas with no power lines. They power their homes with electricity generated from the wind turbines.

Therefore, the fact of the whole story is that you are getting electricity efficiently and in the most inexpensive way. This and some more innovative technological ideas are required to fight back the conditions of gas and oil prices. No more being a victim to the hike in prices, use innovative ideas and construct easy means for you.

A Digital Camera - How To Make The Right Buying Choice!

August 18th, 2008
by Vincent Manga

If you want to purchase a digital camera, you really must have at least some idea of what you need to look out for and avoid. You don’t have to be an expert, but you must at least know some basics to make sure you don’t end up with an inadequate camera for your digital photography. The following is a series of things you need to understand and look out for, there there is less plus several things you must avoid.

1. megapixels:

With the exception of the high-end professional digital cameras of 12 plus megapixels, the number of megapixels a digital camera is capable of generally speaking is the most important quality factor when it comes to how good your digital photos will come out. In the case of the high-end digital cameras the lenses themselves will also play a very important part.

When comparing digital cameras by the number of megapixels they are capable of, you will need to look closely at the small print on the digital camera or in the digital cameras manual. You may find that the camera is in reality capable of less megapixels then it leads you to believe.

What many digital camera manufacturers do is to print on the camera or in their manuals say six megapixels in big writing, but underneath there’s writing where they will put something like five megapixels enhanced to six using software. If the camera states something along these lines the camera is not truly six megapixels at all. If the camera has to use software to enhance its number of megapixels it will not be as good as a true six megapixel camera.

How much zoom do you need?

You’re going to have to decide just how much zoom your camera will need, for this think about the type of photography you want to take with the camera, if a lot of long-distance photos are going to be taken, obviously more zoom will be very useful.

There are two kinds of zoom, optical and digital. Optical zoom zooms in using lenses within the camera, so there will be no quality lost. Where as digital zoom on the other hand will simply make your pictures bigger and so will lose you are lot of picture quality.

Many digital cameras here too can be misleading since they will often state the maximum digital zoom in big letters on the camera without actually stating that it is in fact digital zoom, they will of course tell you that it is digital zoom so as to cover themselves legally but again only with very small print nearby.

In my opinion digital zoom is about as useful as mud, I’d much rather not use digital zoom and instead digitally enlarged the picture at home on my PC. This way I would be able to see exactly how much picture quality I would be losing and I would still have the original picture at full quality.

3. Powersupply

Many people don’t stop to think about the powersupply of the digital camera they are thinking about buying, but I’m sure you can agree that the last thing you want to happen while you’re out and about taking your pictures is that you suddenly ran out of power and can no longer take any more.

With the lower end cheaper more commercial digital cameras AA and AAA rechargeable batteries are quite common. In recent years these batteries have come down considerably in price so this isn’t such a bad thing. You just have to remember to keep several sets charged and ready to go at all times.

Specially made lithium battery packs are normally used in the higher end digital cameras. Because of the fact these battery packs are specifically made for the cameras in question they are also normally considerably more expensive.

Since these batteries are normally somewhat more expensive you will also want to take this into account when comparing price on each different camera model. You do normally get the added advantage of a longer period of usage of the digital camera when using these battery packs.

Some digital cameras can take both normal batteries and their own specific battery pack. This could, as I’m sure you can imagine, be a pretty cool feature since it will give you full control.

If you take into account everything mentioned above when you compare digital cameras, you should have no problem in choosing a good camera for your usage. Also remember to check out on-line reviews as they will help you compare each camera.

This is especially important if you are buying a high-end digital camera, since as I have mentioned there are other factors such as the digital cameras lenses that will affect the quality of the pictures the digital camera takes.

Home Office Design: Secrets to Exceptional Home Office Design

August 18th, 2008
by KC Kudra

Setting up a home office is one of the most important tasks you will face when you make the decision to work from your own home. Your home office can be a corner of your kitchen or living room or, if space permits, a former spare bedroom.

Size is less important that functionality. When deciding on where to set up the nerve center of your business, there are some factors you need to consider.

Is the area well lit?

Having the correct lighting is very important when setting up a home office. Eyestrain and eye problems can result if you spend long periods of time in a dimly lit room staring at papers or a computer screen. In order to avoid eventual vision problems, you will want to have a well-lit home office.

Are there plenty of electrical outlets?

Take into consideration what appliances you will have in your workspace. Your computer system will require an outlet for your CPU, monitor, scanner, printer, speakers (sometimes), and other ancillary equipment you may have.

Is There Enough Ventilation?

Computer equipment needs to “breath”. Having proper ventilation will allow your computer to run longer and last longer. It must be cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Likewise, you will operate more efficiently and effectively if you are comfortable, so looking at the ventilation is a must. Also, check out the amount of dust in the area. Computers and people work less well when the dust levels are high.

Telephone Access Is another Consideration

Depending on your Internet access, you will need either one or two telephone lines in your home office. If you are on dial-up, you will need two phone lines - one for the computer and one for you to talk on. It is also much easier to track your telephone usage if you separate your personal phone line from your business telephone line.

Having separate telephone lines in your home office is important because you don’t want to be online if a client is trying to reach you. Make sure that this separate line is set up to receive phone calls while you are online. If you have broadband, one phone line will suffice. These things need to be considered prior to opening your door for business.

What Type Of Internet Access Do You Have?

Now a days the modern home office must not only have a telephone it is imperative it also has access to a high speed Internet connection. Depending on your service provider this may already be covered by telephone if you have DSL Internet.

If you already have a broadband connection, make sure you have access to the cable connection where you are located. If you choose to go with a wireless connection to your broadband access, be sure and secure and encrypt it with WPA encryption and not WEP. WEP encryption was hacked about 10 years ago, and if you are doing secure transactions online, spring for a wireless modem/router with the latest encryption available. Better still, you might want to stick with straight cabling for faster speed and safety.

If you take advantage of a nearby WiFi hotspot where you can go wireless, be sure and avoid making purchases or conducting unencrypted transactions while wireless on a public wireless connection. If you go wireless at home, make sure you have encrypted your connection and you should be just fine. With all of these decisions made, you will have the basics for starting the setup of your home office organization.
